& Postpartum Care

From your first prenatal visit to your 6-week postpartum checkup, our certified nurse-midwives are with you every step of the way — providing personalized, relationship-based care in a space that feels like home.

Prenatal Care

You are nurturing your baby inside you, and your body is going through a lot of changes. At Beginnings Birth Center, you’ll have regular prenatal visits where we talk about these changes, your current stage of pregnancy, and discuss any questions or concerns you have.

Labor & Birth

We are dedicated to providing a safe, relaxing, and comfortable atmosphere. We strive to help you meet your goals and give birth the way that you choose.

Our certified nurse-midwives and registered nurses will take care of you through every stage of your labor, birth, and recovery. You’ll have contact information for the midwife on call and can reach her as soon as labor starts.

Once labor is established, your midwife and nurse meet you at the birth center to help you settle in. You’ll have access to luxury amenities including spa-like birthing suites, large private bathrooms, birth balls, support slings, birth stools, and spacious custom waterbirth tubs. Nitrous oxide is also available as a comfort option.

After Birth

After birth, baby goes skin-to-skin immediately and you and your family can enjoy these special bonding moments together. We assess and stabilize baby as needed, determine APGAR scores, and check on you and baby frequently for the first hour.

Baby’s first exam is done right next to you in the room. We check weight and length, do an initial physical exam, and create a keepsake birth certificate with footprints.

Families usually go home around 4 hours after birth so you can recover in the most comfortable place of all — your own home. Your midwife remains available by call or text for any questions or concerns after you leave.

Postpartum Care

Your first postpartum visit for both you and baby will be at the birth center 24–48 hours after birth. We complete physical exams, evaluate baby’s feeding, talk about how the adjustment to your new baby is going, and answer any questions.

Our nurse-midwives provide well-baby care for the first 2 weeks. Baby’s first visit with the pediatrician is usually at 1 month. Your final postpartum visit is a 6-week visit — and you’re always welcome to bring the baby and other kids too.

We’ll talk about how you’re healing, planning or preventing future pregnancies, and returning to sex, work, and exercise. And if you need support with feeding along the way, our lactation support team is here for you.
